Some Common Misconceptions About Yoga

Common Misconception #1:
"You have to be flexible"
I hear a lot of people saying they can't do yoga as they are not flexible...
Guess what? You don't need to be flexible to do yoga! In fact if you are very stiff and unflexible you probably need to start Yoga.
Common Misconception #3:
"You have to be a young, slim woman"
Yoga is for everyone! Anyone can do yoga. Poses are adapted to individual needs, and of course, if you have a specific health issue, certain postures should be avoided. But yoga is much more than poses, and even a person who cannot move can practice yoga.
Common Misconception #2:
"You need a lot of time"
When I became a Yoga Teacher I was practicing twice a day for an hour long. I thought it was the only way to practice Yoga. When life became busier I started to shorten my practice...10 minutes every day can change your life! Yoga adapts to your life!
Common Misconception #4:
"People who do yoga are zen"
And after two yoga sessions, you’re still stressed. So yes, with consistent practice, you will likely become better at navigating difficult emotions. But it’s not miraculous: many people who do yoga still face stress, anger, and anxiety like everyone else. Over time, you learn techniques to better handle these emotions, but they don’t disappear!
